God wants each of us to experience a life that has meaning, direction, love, and peace. He makes this kind of life possible through a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. But before you accept Jesus as your Savior, here are four truths that will help you understand GOD’S PLAN for you.
GOD'S PLAN GIVES MEANING TO YOUR LIFE.
“Jesus replied, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty'” (John 6:35). Many people see meaning and purpose for their life, but never find it because they look for meaning in the wrong people and things. When you follow God’s plan for your life, the most important of which is to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you will find meaning and purpose in everything you do.
GOD HAS GOOD THINGS PLANNED FOR YOU.
“No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven” (John 3:27). God created you, and has mapped out specific things for your life — good things! But to know His plans, you must know God personally. “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
GOD'S PLAN GIVES DIRECTION FOR YOUR LIFE.
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life'” (John 8:12). Without God’s direction, you may not know what to do with your life. You may have tried a lot of things, hoping to find meaning in each one, but if you follow God, He will lead you (give your life some light) and show you how to make your life count for Him and His kingdom.
GOD'S PLAN BRINGS PEACE.
“For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Before Adam and Eve sinned (Genesis 3), they had a good relationship with God. They gladly entered God’s presence regularly. But after they fell, their relationship with God changed, and they were ashamed to go near God. Sin had separated them and the entire human race from God — including you. But God didn’t want sin to keep people from having a relationship with Him, so He provided a way in which people could be cleansed of their inherited sin nature and live peacefully with Him forever.
HOW TO KNOW JESUS PERSONALLY AS YOUR LORD & SAVIOR
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me” (Matthew 16:24).
BE WATER BAPTIZED
This act of faith is an outward demonstration of the inward work God has done in your heart. “Then Peter said, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit'” (Acts 2:38).
READ & STUDY THE BIBLE
The Bible is your guidebook for life. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
SPEND TIME PRAYING
The Bible reminds us to: “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere” (Ephesians 6:18). Prayer is simply communication with God and involves both talking and listening.
ATTEND & JOIN A BIBLE-BELIEVING CHURCH
We need one another. And church is so much more than a weekend activity. It equips us for every good thing God desires in and through us. “So let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25).
